Still Sarah After Miscarriage

Who am I?

Our favorite pregnancy pictureThat is a good question. I’m sure you don’t want to hear about how many colleges I’ve attended (8!) or my ability to pick up objects with my toes. You’re probably wondering:

  1. Who is this lady?
  2. Does she get me?

I’m not sure how to best answer those questions. I am first and foremost a follower of Christ. Then, a loving yet flawed wife. And, I’m recently a first-time, flabbergasted, clueless, exhilarated, rejoiceful, and absolutely exhausted mommy.

My career has morphed over the years. I’ve worked in many industries: fast food, retail, commercial fishing, non-profit (at risk youth, homeless ministry, sex trafficking programs, fundraising), computer training, child care, and the list goes on. With this vast experience in the real world, I find it easy and exciting to relate to others in their professional experiences.

No. I don’t get you; and that means I get you

Have you ever wished someone would just say “Wow – I can’t at all relate to your experience. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. If you know what you need from me, what can I do? Otherwise, just know that I’m here and I love you, Friend.”

The truth is, I’ve had multiple miscarriages. Every one of them was distinct and every one of them hit my life hard in completely contrasting ways. If each of my four miscarriages were unique and barely prepared me for the next one, how could I honestly say that I know how you feel? Heck, I’ve hardly known how feel about my own losses, let alone pretending to understand yours.

This is the viewpoint I write from on this website. I don’t know how you feel, but perhaps we can find areas of overlap that will encourage each other at times. I understand a lot about loss and I hope to hear and begin to understand your story.
